West Won Fest

WEST WON FEST : A COMMUNITY FESTIVAL CELEBRATING SUCCESS

The West Won Fest is was born out of the desire of residents in the Mount Dennis area of Toronto to come together to
celebrate the positives and successes that they witnessed everyday in their neighbourhood; but were not  necessarily commonly known throughout the city nor covered in the main stream media.

The first festival was organized in 2010 by a group of 12 residents/community organizers. These organizers were primarily youth who wanted to celebrate their achievements and hard work as volunteers in their community. With a minuscule budget and donations of materials and space from the community, our first festival successfully featured: fun and games for children, music and comedy performances from local artists, plus games/tournaments, food, and community resources. In addition, the festival was supported by community partners: Social Planning Toronto, York Youth Coalition, Toronto Public Library, City of Toronto Community Development, Action for Neighbourhood Change, United Way Toronto, Unison Community Health Centre, and The Learning Enrichment Foundation, amongst others, are all eager to continue supporting the festival as it grows in 2013.

On July 20, 2013 we celebrate the third annual West-Won festival. The overwhelming support from the community reaffirmed their wish to continue and enhance the festival, which aims to bring the neighbourhood together to celebrate local successes. We are committed to working in partnership with youth; their families and stakeholders help create a sense of togetherness and community pride to maintain a fun and festive experience for all.

NEIGHBOURHOOD FESTIVAL GROUP

West Won Fest is an event hosted by Neighbourhood Festival Group which led by local residents in partnership with local agencies/organizations and supportive allies. Our aim is  to organize, stage
and support community events that celebrate successes in
our communities. Neighbourhood Festival Group/West Won Fest  is formally supported by Action for Neighbourhood Change (ANC) –Mount Dennis which receives funding and support from United Way of Greater Toronto.  ANC-Mount Dennis is managed by Social Planning Toronto.
